The Inside Scoop
The Inside Scoop is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor on route 309 in Coopersburg. It’s difficult to miss its big, bright sign that is indicative of the novelty vintage flair of the establishment.
The whole place is a retro, 50’s-style ice cream parlor and, as I realized on my second visit, is accommodating to a younger crowds (as in, under 21). This idea struck me when I was most recently there, as I saw a gang of kids in their early teens sitting along the counter, eating their ice cream. They were youthful, loud, and didn’t have my brand of humor, but I think it’s important that they had an establishment wherein they could be youthful and loud with a mediocre sense of humor. I never had such a location. For one, there were barely any places around; second, there were even fewer that weren’t bars (even after I’ve turned 21, I would never consider myself a “bar gal” and have no desire to become one). So, seeing a place and an environment like this that isn’t a fast food chain was, in a way, comforting.
The flavors of ice cream and Italian ice rotates, providing both classic choices as well as a more unique selection (my boyfriend enjoyed Butter Brickle there last time, a flavor he likes very much but rarely encounters). Their ice cream is smooth and flavorful and the atmosphere makes it a fun place to hang out.
You can also order beverages and hot drinks (including coffee in mugs that would satisfy Lorelai Gilmore), and they even have a small game room for a side of fun.
It’s cutely-designed, the ice cream and other treats are tasty, and it’s just what the doctor ordered on the days you need something out of Happy Days.
